Members of the Treasure Life Ride team and Matthew Flinders Home had a quiet gathering to hand over a cheque for the substantial amount of $114,000. The handover on Tuesday, July 2 was the grand finale to an extraordinary effort by a passionate group of local individuals pursuing a heartfelt vision.

The Treasure Life Ride initiative, developed by local business owners Tony Baj, Mark Forbes, and Trent Adams, identified Matthew Flinders Home as the perfect partner in a collaborative effort that raised funds to benefit both young sick children from the region and aged care recipients across Eyre Peninsula. Both Ronald McDonald House and Matthew Flinders Home Inc. are charities that play a vital role in supporting the community and residents of Eyre Peninsula in times of need.

The partnership saw Matthew Flinders Home board members Robyn Dawson and Steve Kemp, along with their family and friends, dedicate countless hours in preparation for the bike ride and the many fundraising events to be held in towns along the way, including preparations for a major fundraiser in Port Lincoln at the end of the ride. They spent six days on the road, supporting the riders throughout their journey across Eyre Peninsula.

Each day, once the peloton safely reached their destination, the team engaged in days and evenings of fundraising activities.

Mr Kemp and Ms Dawson witnessed first-hand the need for aged care throughout the region, which reinforced their fundraising efforts. The event itself, a gruelling ride from Whyalla to Port Lincoln, was a test of resilience and strength, with riders bonded by their community spirit, spurred on by their own personal stories and experiences.

The Treasure Life Ride events in 2022 and 2024 have raised more than $370,000 for Ronald McDonald House and Matthew Flinders Home, significantly benefiting the region.

Mr Kemp and Ms Dawson expressed their appreciation, stating it was heart-warming to witness the dedication and effort of the riders and support crew in raising much-needed funds for the charities.

Matthew Flinders Home chief executive officer Nikki Meredith extended heartfelt gratitude to the Eyre Peninsula community for their generous donations and unwavering support of the Treasure Life Ride charity.

The Treasure Life Ride is a biennial long-distance cycling challenge aiming to challenge riders and raise funds for non-profits who support everyone from the very young to the elderly. Based on the Eyre Peninsula, Treasure Life Ride is a registered charity and will issue you with a tax-deductible donation for all donations over $2.00. All organisers, riders, and support crew are volunteers.
